  • LH Bearing Housing (removal)

Hi all, I want to remove and polish the bearing housing (2H7-15163-00-00) on the left side of the crankcase, the one right next to the starter motor. it doesn't seem to want to budge with the three allen bolts removed, and I'm having a little trouble reading the parts fiche (link below) to discern how it's assembled on the other side. I can't seem to find the spot in disassembly in either Clymer's or the factory manual where this housing is removed. Can someone advise? I don't want to force it without making sure there's no special steps to removal. Or anything else I need to know.

    Thanks,
    Mike

It is a slight interference fit, you will need to carefully pry from opposing sides, maybe try using two small screwdrivers simultaneously and slowly work it out. There is nothing in the back holding it, it is just an exact fit, it will come out though. There is an O-ring behind there that may be holding it some. It may be easier with the starter removed if you haven't already done so.

Thanks Phil, more or less what I suspected, but wanted to be safe. I did see the o-ring on the diagram, and did remove the starter. now more polishing... The right side looks pretty good! Not aiming for perfection, as I lack the requisite patience to bring these back to true mirror shine.

Like bikerphil said, you just need to pry it out carefully.

I found more pry spots with the starter removed.

I did this 3 times before.

The first time, I broke it... but I found they were plentiful on eBay for ~$10-$20. Since was going to polish it anyway, the condition of the replacement wasn't critical.

Thanks guys, I got it out. Just as well I pulled it as the o-rings need replacing. Polishing will take a bit more than the others as that and the side cover beneath it were probably oxidized the worst of any of them...
