Hey guys. Kind of a rookie biker here. Was really hoping someone could help me out with this before i go crazy. I just picked up a Yamaha 1100xs a couple weeks ago and I knew the clutch had to be adjusted. Well it passed safety but when the shop dropped the bike off to me he pointed out that it wasn't an adjustment that it needed that the clutch wouldn't release. He said it happens when bikes sit for a while - as this one did for about 8 or 9 months. He then said that sometimes the clutch plates will release and be fine after its been driven a little bit. Well herein lies my problem. If the clutch doesn't disengage when i put it inot gear it jumps and then stalls out. So my question is this. Is this a common thing? and if so how do I rectify this stuck clutch if I can't get on the road?
would love to hear from someone as i am going absolutely insane wanting to take this thing out for a ride.

Do a search here for "stuck clutch plates" and hit the thread "dry clutch" for tips.

Try putting it in third or forth and with the clutch pulled in, rock the bike back and forth, might knock them loose if their not too badly stuck.

since riding season is about over i would just be on the safe side and replace the clutch and springs and get it ready for next riding season
