  • carb manifold clamp screw size?

On my 80 SG the screws that hold the clamps for the carb boots-does anyone know the correct size they would be? I assume it is metric? Want to replace them as the phillips heads are a bit worn.

IIRC, they are 5mm, but DO NOT go buy that! I replaced a set on my '79 Standard a few years ago. Take one screw with you to Ace Hardware, match it in Stainless Steel, and your good for the next 40 years. I did get the hex head screws, as I do have a long set of hex sockets.

The correct size is M4, pitch is 0.7, length is 20mm.

Many thanks -will order from McMaster Carr then. My Home Depot for some reason doesn't carry much in the line of metric screws.

Lowe's carries some metric, more than Home Depot. Any hardware store should have the plastic boxes with screws. Most will have the correct size, and probably in SS.

Most stores by where I live are now gone . I used to like going to Sears Hardware-they had everything. Lowes has more than Home Depot. Will check tomorrow.

So you know, I work part time at Lowe's, and used to work at Home Depot. Go to the isle with the bolts and nuts, and scan the pull out bins/drawers. You should see both metric, and SS metric about one or two bays away. Don't be afraid to ask for help, though not everyone who works in the departments know as much as they should. We are all learning all the time.

Heck, even your neighborhood Ace Hardware would have those.

The Lowes by me did not have the screws. I must have spent at least 15 minutes looking. No one was available to help and everyone is on the damm phone that works there. Going to order from McMaster Carr.
