  • New to XS 1100 guy here.

Recently got back into the motorcycle scene and acquired 2 XS1100's one standard 79 and an 80 special, minus the frame for the standard...
I am awaiting my Yamaha factory service manual but I have a question.
are the 78-81 frames all the same?

Specials do not have a hinged rear fender.

Interesting, then I must have a standard frame. That's not what I was told at the purchase.

After looking at it frame is 3J6 with a hinged bracket and fender, standard tank, special wheels and forks..just a thrown together hodgepodge. So I have a big pile of standard and special parts with a mostly complete bike.

Just use Special forks with Special triple clamps and vice versa,
