So when I posted about issues I had when riding, most said the bread tie sync will get you close but you need to do a vacuum sync. I explained I didn't have gauges and am having some medical issues. My boss did the sync at work but I didn't watch him do it, so I don't know what the gauges showed. Today I got a set of gauges from the company Vevor No instructions or reviews on the internet I could find and general instructions. I removed the tank, vacuum caps and attached the gauges to the gauges and related carbs, it said to adjust the knob so the gauges fluctuated slightly. I did that but after that kind of winged it. The Yamaha manual doesn't say which way to turn the screws. Nothing I could see on this site exists on any help syncing. I turned in the #1 screw and the idle increased and I backed off on the idle screw, blipped the throttle and gauge kind of settled down. I followed along in the manual the sequence and was done finally. I took the bike out for a ride and it behaved nicely. Plugs 3 and 4 were a nice yellowish tan color and I didn't check # 2 but #1 was not too bad looking. So now my question is the mercury gauges simpler? The Vevor gauges have all this writing on it saying-good engine ,valve clearance issue. What do I generally follow? Should all the gauges fluctuate ever so slightly? If the don't really move should I think they were synced correctly?

I adjust the restrictor on each gauge so the needle is fluttering very slightly. That way I knw they are all flowing.

Then adjust the carb sync screws so all the gauges read the same. Even if you don't understand the preferred sequence, you will still get the right result when all the gauges read the same.

That is what I did. I adjusted so the needles fluttered so slightly. The gauges read almost the same without them going crazy. When I turned the adjustment screws, I blipped the throttle and lowered the idle using the screwdriver. I really think the mercury gauges, Motion Pro gauges with the blue fluid are better or more easier. Before the process, I found a vacuum cap with a tear in it, so that was changed. I feel now the bike will be fine.

Yep, with the gauge type you can set the idle mixture too, the sticks may not be accurate enough to do so, IDK.

The idle speed is maybe around 900 but the bike is smooth. I could turn it up but don't want to mess things up. No hesitation whatsoever.

Yes, if it runs good, leave it alone, my advice. Enjoy the summer and ride.

I agree with Phil! If you look at my post, next one down, I just posted two pics of my gauges. I sync the gauges with the mityvac, to verify they are all 4 together, and then sync the carbs. That is the engineer in me, but hey, it works.
Sounds to me like your bike is now synced, and should be go to go!

I could not find a brand on them, but this kit looks like mine:https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/...sku_id=1049253 I've had this kit for about 15 years, so I know I didn't pay over $100 for it. Now it's about $180. One thing I do before using them is connect all 4 tubes together and use my vacuum pump to verify they are still correct. The "T" fittings for 1/4" drip line work great for this.

I have been using my morgan carbtune gauges for many years now. Many don't like them but I find them to be accurate enough for the xs1100's. What I really like about them is the fact they have solid bars in them rather than liquid so there is no fear of sucking any fluid out of them. The gauges Ray has are very nice as well. The carbtunes are available on Fleabay for a reasonable price. Morgan Carbtune - carburetor synchronizer for balancing motorcycle carbs

Today I took the bike out for a ride. Having not ridden the bike more than 3 miles in the last 3 years, my 9 mile ride today brought new life to me. The power seemed endless. I plan on riding the bike every chance I get.
