  • Help with identifying fairing

Good morning. Just picked up a 1980 XS1100G last Monday and am looking for some help ID'ing the fairing so I can get a replacement windshield. Was not sure if it's a stock item or a Vetter but it does have Yamaha logo's on it and is painted to match the rest of the bike. Here's a picture of it, thanks in advance!

I identify as a man but according to the label on a package of Stauffers Baked Lasagne I'm actually a family of four!

The Vetter shield should work. 1978 Yamaha used a Pacifico fairing, but the factory burned down and they switched to Vetter. 1979 and up were all Vetter products, IIRC.

XS1100 SF Bob Jones worked on it!

Thanks for the reply. Is there any particular model of Vetter I should be buying or are they all the same?

This link should help you to ID what type of Vetter you have.

1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )
        1979 XS1100SF (stock-euro mods planned)
        1984 XV700L Virago (to be hot-modded)
        1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim (semi-restored DD)
        1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)

Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

Well I can KIND OF look at the general shapes and guess what I need there but was hoping for something a bit more cut and dry. Did Yamaha offer a factory fairing option in 1980?

A quick search yielded this info:

            https://xs11.club/forum/modification...jammer-fairing

Seems like the fairings that were offered back then were rebadged Vetter's or Pacifico's

Very much appreciated, didn't think to search here, I've been using google up til now. It appears that I have a factory installed touring package judging by the old ads I've seen and from the link you provided it looks as if I have a Pacifico with a square headlight instead of round as pictured in that link. The trunk that's on it is labeled Vetter but differs from the old ads, the bags and guards look to be the factory version.

I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that it'll be worth it to try to clean up the windshield that's on there now. It has a lot of pitting and is like riding through the rain with it like that, I really don't have much to lose by hitting it with progressively finer sandpaper and then polish.

Now that I've looked it over AGAIN I'm seeing two rusty clips on the top fasteners on each side of the windshield which for sure say Vetter on them even though the rest of the fairing looks like a Pacifico. I've found a couple of sources for a replacement dirt cheap and as mentioned, it's pitted pretty deep. There's a young lady (54) upstairs wanting a ride so I'm thinking I'll put her on polishing duty some time today.

I can tell you for a fact that you have a Vetter fairing. The Pacifico mounts, and looks, are very different from the Vetter. I've had both types, and there is a Vetter on my '79 Special that I hope to ride today. There were two different shields that cover the Vetter line. One has the hump in the bottom front for the round light, and the other has a flat front.

The 1981 Venturer XS1100H fairing seems to be the same as your fairing:

Yeah, that looks like the same one. The Plexico replacement windshield looks closer than the Vetter Slipstreamer replacement does.
