1100 headlight

Hello i am restoring a 1981 1100 midnight special could someone tell me if the headlight is supposed to come on when you turn on the key or does it come on when it starts

Headlight only comes on when the engine starts. Tail lights should come on with the key. Turn signals may need the engine running to flash, but this would be due to bad connections, both hot and ground.

if you ever decide to upgrade your headlight, which I recommend, with an LED be sure to read the tech tip on bypassing the RLU (Reserve Lighting Unit). Thes old halogen lights don't light up the road well enough.
