  • 79 Special Triple Tree Spacers

    Hey folks!

I am replacing the steering head bearings on my 79 Special and have a question. Between the two parts of the triple tree there are spacers that hold the headlight on the bike; since my Special has a fairing, I don't need the mounts. How important are the spacers themselves? I would rather just leave them off if they are not required for the bike aside from mounting headlights.

    Thanks in advance!

The only thing you will encounter aside from the headlight is that they hold down the front cover emblem, it will be loose otherwise.

What Phil said! You can swap the headlight ears for appropriately sized PVC. That’s if you want to keep the cover for the lower tree.

I ditched mine as I had an aftermarket LED headlight.

Thanks for the info everyone! I'll just make some spacers and paint them black since they are mostly hidden by my fairing anyway (at least, I will once I cut the lower race out of the steering head).
