Took the XS out for the first ride of the year. After sitting for months, it fired up and idled well, thanks to alcohol free gas and staybil. We've still more nights below freezing, so I'm not going to take the bike to work just yet. Getting off at 2300 and riding home with possible ice does not seem like fun at 67... I may be prepping my 750/850 final drive for this bike. The Special is just revving too much at 80mph speed of the freeway here in Idaho.

Glad to see you got the ol xs1100 rolling again,,,,,,just a thought, I had a special back when and had a long thread on the rear wheel I bought it with an 19 inch rear from an xs750 which dropped the revs to about the same as the rear end final drive ratio without the hassle of redoing the shaft, gears. Just pickup an old xs750 rim, pop on a wide tire and away you go with a nice drop in revs at speed. IT was a straight fit to the xs1100, only noticed it sat about 1 inch higher, but dropped the revs 400 at 60,,,,maybe do a search on the subject if interested, otherwise,,,,glad another xs is resurrected, hope the new state is working out, california is definately getting a bit weird.....ride on Ray,,,,Mike in Sun Diego

Slowly getting the bike running after not riding for it for almost 1 year-maybe more. Tore my rotator cuff in my left shoulder and destroyed my humeral joint capsule in the process last March after a fall at work. Insurance would not pay and quit that job last July. Transferred everything to a new storage unit maybe 3 minutes from my apartment and plan to do more riding now that the bikes are closer to me. Too cold at night to ride, going to wait until roads are clear and weather is warmer.1980 XS1100 SG

Hi Again DiverRay,,,,I went back to the old forums and the tire was an 18 inch off an xs750 or 850, in the old forums it was titled..."18" rear tire rim guru question " pretty lengthy, but good info on the rev drop at speed, etc.,,,,,it replaced the missing 6th gear we all wish we had on the 1100's,,,,,,ride on,,,,Mike in Sun DIego

Thanks Mike! I do have the final drive here, and it's not that hard to do. I can also put the 17" off the standard on it, but don't want to, as this bike DID pass through Bob Jones's shop.Ray Matteis
