Thanks for sharing Marty. For a new comer this is super helpful. I've already learned from the parts list that I am missing all the guts for the pet cock piping. Mine has been jimmied a straight hot into the carbs.

WOW, that's fantastic information. I have an '81 Midnight Special, but there's several part numbers that have helped me find what I've been looking for!!! Thanks for sharing!!
1981 Midnight Special
Formerly had a Seca 550 and boy was it fast!!
Would you also happen to have the 1978 and 1980 parts breakdown? Cross referencing these two documents with '79 doc will help me better understand what parts are interchangeable amongst the various model years and certainly will help me when I'm under pressure to buy an elusive part when a opportunity arises.
Here is a list of some of the common parts that I have been working on for a while now, showing some of the differences in part numbers between the 79, 80, and 81 specials, I may do a similar chart for the standards sometime, but this is all I have for now. Hope it helps.

Very nice chart Bob. :Looks like something that could be added to the tec tips section. Hope you have recovered from your agent orange problems and are progressing on your duel projects.

Thanks Jim (cajun31),
The admins are welcome to post the part numbers chart if they like.
The “dueling projects” were put on hold over the winter while convalescing. The projects will resume later this month, after which, due to aging health issues, they will likely be my last projects before I sell out and retire from what has been a fantastic XS11 hobby!

All of the XS1100 parts manuals are available at Yamaha USA or OEM parts vendors with the exception of the XS1100SF.

The left is missing the muffler, so I don't know what it's off, but the right looks like a "Special" assembly. The cross over pipe is different between the Standard and Special, and the two don't mix! Aftermarket pipes, if you can find them, usually fit either model.
