Has anyone ever swapped out the forks from a standard to a special? Just curious as the one's on my 80' special are pretty wonky with corrosion and I found a nice pair from a standard. I realize the brake calipers are different, but will they work with the special's wheel/rotor combo?

The wheel rotor combo is the same between the 2 models, but the Standard and Special triple trees have different offsets. The forks will fit but the steering geometry (rake and trail) will be affected as the Standard forks sit on top of the axle and the Special forks have a leading axle. If you also swap the triple trees, the geometry will then be correct.

How bad are your original forks? I have seen some that looked really wasted turn out very nice with enough elbow grease. Of course if they are corroded beyond that possibility then forget the suggestion.
