  • carb plugs?

What the heck are these plugs for? See them on ebay frequently and I'm tired of guessing what they are!

    Hey Dean,

What's funny is that George's description states they are for the 80-81 series, but the 80-81 carbs DON'T use the Pilot Jet plugs. Only the 78-79 use them, even though Yamaha's own parts online catalog shows the use of a "Screw" that goes over the pilot jet. The earlier carbs are supposed to get their pilot circuit flow thru a shared passage with the Main jet, and NOT directly thru the float bowl, so they are capped off. But in the later carbs, that passage was closed, and the pilot jets get their supply from the bowl, so they are NOT to be capped off!!

My 78's both has screw caps rather than rubber caps. The Yama Plant must have decided that push-in plugs were easier in later 79 models...
