I have an 79 speical engine, I want to put into my 81 standard.
I know the TCI and carbs might be different, I can deal with that, but will the engine fit? Bolt right in, as it were?
On a side note, sometime this winter I might end up with most of a 79 special, or some of one, anyway, that would be reealllyy cheap, or maybe even free depending on what's left, to a good home, with pick-up required. I won't have anywhere to keep it.

Instead of trying to use the 79 box, swap out the timing cover ignition components from the 81 to the 79. The 81 doesn't use a centrifugal advance, it's built into the TCI, just uses the vacuum advance. The 79 has both, and you'll get too much advance if you leave the 79 parts in! Have fun!
Will do what I can to take the parts off yer hands.
