Curious to know what tyres and brake pads people are choosing for an SF. Are there brands that are generally thought to work well on the bike?

As for the Special's front brake pads, be aware there is a left set and a right set.

Left side is FA-61
Right side is FA-41

I'm using the Michelin Bias tires on my '79. 100/90-19 front( one size over stock) and 130-16 rear. Very happy with the tires so far, as I only have a thousand miles on them.Ray Matteis

Ray... am I missing something. I thought the tire sizes you listed were what was stock on specials. Of course you shortened the rear as that tire is 130/90-16. Correct?2 - 80 LGs bought one new

I like how the Shinko 777's ride if you're looking to not break the bank. I went cheap on pads and wish I had went with EBC.1979 XS1100 Special

Yes, the Front is larger than stock, but the rear is the stock size. I've had Shinko tires, and as I have the Special, I can put good tires on it. There IS a difference in wear and handling. Price isn't that bad, and they will last a long time, as I'm probably only going to be putting about 2K per year on them.Ray Matteis
