Just to save others the future headache......
The Bikemaster brand fork seals that are sold on Amazon that says fit a 1980 XS11 Special....are just barely too big around. You'll destroy them putting them in. I wish I would have kept the pt# to share.
I then ordered from two different vendors on EBay at the same time. Both seals said to fit 1978-1981 XS11 Specials. Received both packages at the same time and yep, you guessed it, both Bikemaster brand....and two different Pt#'s.
Pt# 429001 (36x48x10.5)
and
Pt# 429046 (37x48x10.5)
At least I felt good about both being 48mm, as that's what the hole measured.
For my particular 1980 XS11 Special, it was the Bikemaster Pt# 429046 that measured out, and fit both the slider and tube correctly.....and also, tapped right in with a seal installer.
I hope this info saves further frustration for others, especially for those of us who live in the sticks, click, and wait for the big brown truck.
