Feeling Not So Good Vibrations

HEY GUYS,

I'M GETTING THIS VIBRATING IN MY FOOTPEGS @ APPR 4000 RPMS. HERES THE THING, IT DOES NOT DO IT ALL THE. GENERALLY UNDER HARD ACCELERATION SOMETIMES UNDER MODERATE. YOU CAN ACCELERATE THRU IT BUT WHEN YOU LET OFF THE THROTTLE, IT IS VERY NOTICABLE. IT'S A '79 XS11-SPECIAL, IT WAS A GIFT FROM MY DAD AND HAS 61000 MILES ON IT. THE VIBRATIONS STARTED WITHIN THE LAST 200 MILES. I'M NOT SURE WHERE TO START LOOKING AND ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Do you experience a loss in power also? (pick-up coil problem?)

Hmm... maybe one cyl. misfiring... maybe just some rubber on the mountings rotted away (engine, exhaust). Once I even thaught my suspension/rims have gone... it turned out it was just the road in sync with the wheelbase...

My kawa did this after complete rebuild... dunno why, but post some feedback if u manage to solve the problem (OK, I know... shutting off the engine helps)

Good vibrations, not realy

I have been feeling an increasing "buzz" in both my foot pegs and in the handle bars. Last night i hit the Kill switch and pulled in the clutch and it went away. This locates it down to the engine and probably the rubber motor mounts.

Now i have a couple of questions:
1. Are the rubber parts still available or is there a substitute?

2. Can the rubbers be replaced without removing the engine from the frame?

The BUZZ has nothing to do with Jim Beam It is purely mechanical........

Hey guys,

Found out what that vibrating was, seems my U-Joint was wearing out. That is what was causing the vibrations in the footpegs. When the U-Joint finally went, it took the middle drive with it. The good thing about it is I found out that the 3 cylinder 850 mid-drive unit bolts right on to my '79 xs1100 special. I did not do the work, a friend who owns his own shop did the work. However I did inspect the parts visually, his installation simply confirmed what I suspected.

Just wanted to give you guys an update ..... problem solved. Now on to the business of a little better handling and the eternal quest for quickness from the beast. OH YEAH BABY !!!
