Oh to be politically correct!

How emasculated we all have become. As men, we're not supposed to care about other's feelings. But even I was appalled to read recent headlines: ( I thought this concerned their inability to handle liquer) "New Orleans' dikes can't hold their water".
But, being forced to cater to the PC crowd, I constantly have to correct the other mechanic at work when he uses the term "engine"
"Don't call it an engine... You should say "Native American" (he's from the Puyallup Tribe and should know better.)
Concerning "Plug and Play" speedometers... I'm just glad that no one mentioned that they have male and female electrical connectors. I find that offensive... especially when someone comments that one should smear grease on their "prong" so that it slides in there easier.
As for Geezer's supposed misspelling, I believe that he was just writing phonetically... (as the president would pronounce his own name)
(add southern accent): "Hi, I'm Jimma Carter."
All makes sense to me, now.
But... enough of this. Need to run off to work... but gotta make sure I feed My German-American Shepherds before I leave.

I do speak about Joan Claybrook from good information. Back when she was running the NHTSA the car rags rarely ran an article about her be every street bike rag had an update on what she was doing almost every month. I had a chance to listen to a press conference from her on motorcycle safety and you could here the anger in her voice. Yes car guys got stuck with the 85mph speedo too but it was part of her crusade against bikes.

She also tried to force us to ride bikes with full roll cages and she spent over $100k to build a front wheel drive bike that steers from the rear. It also had a full roll cage and need it since it would stay up even in a straight line.

I'm politically incorrect and proud of it. My family thinks I'm leaning toward redneck. I guess I'm an over educated redneck (Bachelor of Arts degree from Portland State University.) I used to speak 3 foreign languages but now I can only babble in Russian and Spanish and I can sort of get around in German.

I only know of her from following what she did when in charge of the NHTSA but it sounds like you knew her personally.

The federal attacks on motorcycling originating from the NHTSA is what firs got me interested in politics. Before that I could give a ratsa$$ about it. Like many others of the time we saw Carter as a refreshing change in leadership but we were blindsided by the one stupid thing after another he did. I voted for him the first time but I voted libertarian the next time. It took me anther 7 years to become conservitve.

Ya, I remember her. This was back when I started riding. Then she comes along and tries to destroy it. One of her other ideas for bikes were seat belts (her 100K$ marvel needed them to keep the rider in the cage so it would not roll over the rider when it fell over). She could never prove they were safer on a "real" bike with crash dummies though. Daaa.
