  • Very fine bike on ebay right now

Here is a very fine example that I think has been for sale for a while. If this condition is a 10 what would you expect it to sell for?

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/1979-Yamaha...1/254821523136

Mine only has a few more miles @7700 and when it's done I would expect it to be condition of an 8 with some small flaws on the original paint and all the service needed to make it reliable after sitting for years. I don't think I'd be out of line at $3500 and I'd probably list it without luggage and use that as a negotiating chip. I really like the bike now that have put all the work into it and have a few miles on it. Pretty sure it will not be put up for sale and will fall into the it don't cost much to enjoy sparingly.

That is a very fine bike. Mint condition is an understatement. It will be interesting to see what the final price is. Then again the reserve may not be met. Bottom line is the bike is only worth what someone is willing to part with for it. If I was into getting one from each year and model in a collection this one would definitely be on my must have list.

Probably in line with "honey, I'm selling the bike, see the ad right there"....then use it for a few more seasons telling her I'm not going to give it away... LOL

XS1100s are a bargain. Especially the Specials. I especially like the SF. I expect that bike will not make reserve, unless maybe it's under $3500. That's my guess. The NADA guide is meaningless. The money in this class goes to the GS1000 or KZ1000. The price drops for Special, LTD, L, or whatever they call their bike with a step seat and buckhorn bars.

Yep, she’s a beauty. It is the 1979 Special with the round chrome grab rail and the more conventionally styled seat. And clean as a whistle she is.

I believe the NADA is written by car dealers. Same with the Kelly Blue Book. Both are total BS and not worth the electrons they inconvenience, to borrow a line from Hamjam.

Ironic, the step seat, buckhorn bars and the shaft drive hurt the value now but those features were exactly what had these bikes selling like hotcakes when they were new.

I sure hope the seller gets an acceptable bid and we start seeing some appreciation for our rides. It won't be long till we find out what someone's willing to pay, and if the seller is willing to take it.

Yeah, Mike! To the right buyer under the right circumstances. If it was yours and we were doing a face to face deal and I knew more about what I was buying, I'm with you. It probably has 42 year old grease in the joints, etc. Don't get me wrong, the XS1100SF is most appealing to me.

The specifications say “standard” type and that bike is clearly a special.

I guess we will see after 10PM tonight whether or not it sells. The more stock it is, the more value it has. There are always unknowns, but this one has a lot going for it in the right direction. Might be a good idea to ask the seller some questions before bidding? There is the factor of location/transportation. I'm guessing $400-$700 for shipping. It will be hard to find a better one.

More bidding action, still didn't hit reserve and it's up to 3800.

About 25 minutes left to auction end at 10PM EST. Will be interesting to see if there are any last second bids.

Was watching to see if there were any fireworks at the end.

One sly bidder slipped in with 1:14 remining and upped the bid from $3800 to $3950.

                              Nothing happened after that.

                              Reserve not met.
