What bikes have you raced your XS11 against and won?

If he was specifically looking for it he probably knew what he was doing. The ARD mags were used for racing. My friend's '65 Bonnie absolutely breathes fire, not necessarily from the magneto though. The engine's also got a 750 kit, a whole lot of other hop-up mods and Ceriani suspension. Stock seat and tank complete with parcel rack...a real sleeper. He loves blowing off guys who think their bikes are fast, especially sport bikes in the twisties and Harleys on the straights.

Two weeks ago. Warrior...on the highway...65 or 70 mph roll on.

It wasn't even fun. I was so far ahead after about 1 mile I think he just gave up.

The sad thing is Zeus ('79 SF) was running kinda sick in the mid range. I can't imagine how bad it would've been had he been healthly.

All I can say is ..."V-Twins....blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

A few years ago I took on a buddies 1200 sportster ( the one with two plugs per cyl. ) Stop light to stop light and long distance. I out ran him both times. On the long distance, he was in front and I stayed back about 1/8 mile or so. When he topped out at around 120 ( according to my speedo ) I gased on it and went around him ( my speedo read about 135 ). On the short distance, I was accross the intersection by the time he was half way accross and stoped at the next light by the time he caught up.
I also took on a Dodge Viper off the line, on a road that bottle necks to one lane to make a dedicated right onto a state hyway. I guess he wanted to be first and I let him. He was first, after me.
And then the ever famous run back to Sioux Falls from Flandru. Runnin down I-29, Crusin at around 85, In kick back mode. A little import sports car blew by me like I was going backwards. I thought long and hard about this one. ( about 1/2 second ) Feat went from hiway pegs to center pegs, Head went down to almost tank level and of coarse this means that throttle goes wide open.
I blew by that car like it was going backwards. She was flyin cause it took a few seconds to catch up. Speedo was bumpin 145.
I think that, That's scary, stupid fast. Especially when ya ain't got a helmet on and ya start thinkin about wobble or tire blow outs. I have no ambishion to ever go that fast agian out side of a track.

... the Mad Kaw goes from 90 to 150 in about a count of six. The sick thing is when I let off @150 the needle on the speedo was climbing like the shuttle Challenger. That's why I pulled the plug at 150. I didn't wanna wind up like the Challenger...

You get a real sick feeling in the pit of your stomach at every expansion joint in the highway at that speed.

Fastest I ever went was on a Vmax demonstrator back when the bike first came out...125 indicated when I glanced down at the speedo but I was decellerating at the time since I was coming up on traffic very fast so I probably went more than 130 mph. That sort of speed gives you "tunnel vision", a narrow focus strictly on the road ahead...couldn't take my eyes off the road...finally forced myself to check the speedo. On the run up I did loft the front wheel at 100 mph which was really a thrill.

The dealer, Bill "Biscuits" Verbiscio, often used that same bike to blow off sport bike riders on the Sunday Morning Breakfast Ride up Hwy. 1. Riders would just get the hell out of his way when they saw him coming up fast in their mirrors broadsliding with a trail of tire smoke! They say the Vmax doesn't handle well but in the hands of a talented former dirt track racer it can be awful fast in the twisties. Bike was completely stock. He probably sold a bunch of those things on the strength of his and the bike's abilities.

Hi all..and ae7f...Like I said in earlier thread, was gonna get the oppertunity to put the ole' Venturer 1100 against my Honda ST 1100. And as the ST 1100 is quick at 0 to 100mph in 11 sec. and 110hp.....and I and the XS11 aren't as good as we once was......but as good once as we ever was.....and on the third try rolling a 10mph start(previous two trys would'nt hold in second) out pulled the ST by half a bike length in First gear with my oldest son (22) aboard the ST, dead even 2nd thru 4th. As speedo on 81 XS is limited at 85mph, when got back to the house aked my son what speed were we at when we both backwd off in fourth.....we were dead on 120mph....thought that was a pretty good test against the newer, higher horsepower inline V4.....and the XS packin' 60-80 pounds more in weight.........both having same gallons of fuel also. So the ole' XS in full dress form still has an attitude for the newbies on crotch rockets(harleys don't count, not even big bore kit ones) R 1200R 4 cyl. beammers, as I rode one and didn't impress me till it wound up above almost 5 grand(to late,XS already made the low end grunt, as does the Honda ST ) The gearing helps the XS in that department, and always wished factory would have produced it with a 6th gear, specially in the Venturer 1100 tour model. Anyway, was very pleased it held it's own against my sport touring Honda!.....Did surprise me tho.....both bikes side by side, gear for gear! As we both are seasoned drag racers...knowing to shift at optimal times and all...thought it twas a good test to see what 24yr. old technology had.....XS1100's are still two-wheel rockets to contend with, even hiding in full dress form!

Yup, that's kind of how I explain the attraction of the XS11 to friends and anybody who will listen. You're on a 25 (or more) year old bike that you can usually pick up for less than a thousand bucks, and you can still get this kind of performance. I call that pretty good 'bang for the buck'

Actually the ZRX handles XStreeeeemly well. Much like a modern sportbike. But ...If you hadn't noticed it's a "standard" type bike. The riding position is very much like an XS11 Standard. It weighs 530 lbs soaking wet and puts 112 rwhp to the pavement right out of the box.

I still love my Elevens...never go without one... but the thing that drew me to this was the "old school" look. Kawy built this bike to have the same vibe as the old KZ1000R (Eddie Lawson Replica) and GPZ1100.

I only wish Yamaha would do something similar. Give us an updated XS11!!! Have you seen the XJR1300 that Yammy sells in Europe. 1300 cc of air cooled inline four....woohoo!!! I wished they sold it here.

Exactly my thoughts Ken! You know, getting this steed back after 15 yrs, all in tact, full dress, with lowers and all was amazing in itself, never mind the $100 bill it cost me to get it back! Then to put in an exact year duplicate moter with low-low miles for $200 topped that! Then to one-up that with running right with my newer technology Honda ST 1100!........and havin the stereo cranked playin' the Doobie Brothers the whole time. It did all that without yet havin carbs synced, as it has a slight roughness rite at a constant 3000rpm, above and below that it's extremely smooth. Also I was asked here about posting pics of bike, but don't have capability on my computer to do that.......so after having seat re-done, possibley you may be able to help with doin that, maybe sending you the pics to post?

Been having a great time riding it.

Down the road I'm going to be looking for a second bike.
Want something that can really handle the twisties when I'm in the mood but will still crank like the XS. Sounds like you got it.

If that one was for me mro........the ST is an excellent choice, and used 92-94 can be had for $4,000 or less. Never mind the mileage, as they are a 300,000 mile bike! Timing belt change is reccomended at 105,000! So if it looks like it was taken care of, and the price is right, non other out there can beat the smoothness, cept for one step up, and they do handle the twistys' well, and that is the 1800 wing.....and that's comin from someone who has rode them......but your gonna pay upwards of $20,000 for one too! Just depends how deep your pockets are, and the Yamaha FJR 1300 at 145horse is pretty much the ultimate super tour class right now! Rode one that a fella had that was passing through here on his way to San Diego, and spent the night at my home. Rode it to breakfast next morning, as he wanted to ride my ST(didn't have the XS done yet) and I just twisted the throttle(no clutching) in first, second, and third, and the bike still come up off the ground far enough you had to look around the side of it for to see where you were headed! They'll run you from $10,000-$13,000....so depends on what you want in styling and performance. The ST is still the best compromise, cost to performace ratio...and you can easily grind the outside of your shoes/boots off in the twistys', and it loves doing it with two up on it! The difficult part is finding someone to give a used one up, even if they don't ride it much, and are riding a Wing or other bike in that class.
