  • What bikes have you raced your XS11 against and won?

    Hi XSives,

I want to see a list of all of the makes/models/displacements of bikes you have raced your XS11 against and won.

I know the XS11 isn't the fastest bike out there, but I also know there have been some bikers out there who have had their lunches eaten by an XS11.

I would like to get an idea of your XS11's victories.

There are no stipulations here. It can be the result of a formal drag race or just a stop light fight. Victories only.

    I'll start it off:
I destroyed some Harleys that tried to embarass me at a stop light. I slowed down at about 55 after just entering 2nd.

    Ben

The 1st bike I tested my E against was a 600cc Ninja. He split lanes and pulled alongside me. He looked at me and "the $60 Gem" and kinda sneered. He then started revving his engine. The light turned green and he shot-off. His bike being lighter and newer he definately got a decent jump on me. He possibly wasn't reving high enough to get on the cam but maybe 300 feet later I torqued righ on past him. Now mind you, this is when my bike had just been put back on the road after sitting outside for 20 years. the faded (original maroon) paint would wipe off the bike with a wet rag. The chrome was rusted and pitted. The aluminum looked like chalk. And, the bike was in full-dress mode with the huge Pacifico fairing and hardbags. No trunk at this time but did have the luggagerack/sissybar.
At the next light he pulled alomgside me again and asked "What the hell kind of bike is that?" I told him "it's a Yamaha that's older than you are" "wanna try again?"
I think he was embarrassed and declined. He stuck to my 7 o'clock for a bit then changed lanes and passed me by (in a civil manner).
Since then there has been the occasional Harley or two but they don't count.

R6 and RSV Mille at a traffic light run. Alltho they must have had no clue how to drag race. If you start REALLY fast, you can just make it through the second lights @100 mph+
      They didn't start REALLY fast
Moto guzzi 1000 SP, but that almost doesnt count. If it were a LeMans, I'd be proud.
      And a bunch of others.

I used to race and blow away Harley riders all the time. However when I slowed down because I was going to fast in town, they'd go by me and say they won. Those guys are too delusional to bother with anymore. Denial isn't just a river in Egypt. ;o)

          raced against and won...

Well, since I had just put the correst year used motor in my 81H Venturer 1100 on Wednesday it didn't take too long for a crotch rocket havin an itch to twist the throttle. Today, Saturday A CBR600 sniffed out the XS, and on a two block run from a stop light when the XS hit bout 5,000rpm in first, up to 7 grand, hit second, even with it not totally staying locked in second was leading him from the get-go, so backed off after to peaking in second as the XS was leading, and was thinking he needed a tow. Gotta make er' last but could'nt resist to see what it would do against a newer bike. Riding a Honda ST 1100 myself, think maybe the ole' girl would give it a good go of it for the first 2 to three gears. Gonna find out when my son visits next week. He's 150lbs and I'm 170, so I'll give the Honda the advantage and have him abord it.....Let you all know who's mirrows stayed on....

            BAD TREAD:

Impressionable young people might get the wrong idea about what ridding is all about.

Older guys like me have no excuesses. that said:

On my way down mission blvd this morning.
Temp. third lane at signal at industrial parkway.
2 harleys in the left lane stopped at light.
I pulled over to far right lane (cars between us and behind us).
When the light changed they jumped on it.
RACING EACH OTHER. (don't think they had even noticed me)

They were about half way thru the intersection when I decided that I was going to see what my 80G could do.
Sifted out of 1st at 7500, wto in 2nd.
caught up and flew past em near top of 2nd, shifted to 3rd.
kepted her wide open for only a few seconds then let off , put in 4th and looked back.

One guy was about 50/60 feet in front of the other and he was about 200 feet behind me.

Think I may gust keep my XS11

            mro

by the way, they didn't wave at me latter as the went by

Not a bad choice mro, as he knows the difference, and have ridden on the rode together, and knows what is safe, and that dead is dead when you make not a right choice. He learned a bit of that in the Navy the last four years, and that has matured him alot. Both me and my two sons also raced moto-cross together, and know that's where to do things like that, in a somewhat controlled enviroment. I still compete in the 50+ class(with an occasional win), still very competative nomatter what it is I do. Anyway, we'll do it in a safe area, plus I know his riding ability. Thanks for the input, as I understand what your saying there.

sonds like you get along well with your kids.
thats great for both you and them.

                I went a little wild when I was 17 until about 22.
(at 22 ran out of money, saw my car burn to the ground and ran into the back of a pickup on my sportster)
Got to live through it all intact and sorta woke up to the idea that I could easily have taken out a few other people along the way.

btw - my dad and I get along great now since about 82. He has never enjoyed my "speed thing" but we spend time flyfishing from alaska to central america.

My friend with a 95" Harley wants to have a go against my 11 but we haven't done it yet or even decided on a safe place.

Last year I was waiting at a signal on my 400 when two Harleys with really loud pipes pulled up on either side. I said, "Nice day for somethin'!" One of the Harley guys says, "Sure is!" Light changed and they took off fast (think they were racing each other). I got on it too shifting just above the bikes 9 grand redline. They look over and surprise surprise I'm right with them on my little 400. LOL Hee Hee! They started to pull away at about 55 so I backed off.

A lot of Harley riders just mount open drag pipes and don't re-jet which actually makes their bikes slower! You can hear the way their bikes backfire and pop...an easy target for an XS11 or even a good 650!
                  Shiny side up,
                  650 Mike

XS1100SF "Rusty", runs great, 96k miles

My best race was a high gear roll on in '78. I had a friend with an 850 Guzzi who smoked me on the 750 honda I was riding at the time. When I got my new XS1100, we didn't get a chance to ride together for a while.
October of that year, on the way back from Laguna Seca Motorcycle races, we got into a roll on going up hill on hiway 1. I let him drop two gears, and he still could not catch up with me. I did back off at about 100, to keep it almost fair.

XS1100 SF Bob Jones worked on it!

Don't really do that kind of thing anymore, but back in '78 when I bought an RD 400 brand new, I can't remember anything that it couldn't shut down on the street.

The Harly guys were so embarresed they would hang WAY back so they wouldn't be next to me at the next light.

Speaking of 2 strokes, anybody remember the Suzuki S-6 Hustler 250cc or the Bridgestone 350cc? (Yep, Bridgestone made motorcycles!) When they came out they would shut down anything on the street in a stoplight drag including the XLCH which was the king of stoplight racing at the time. Sportsters were geared stock for the fastest 1/8 mile time which meant at 65 mph they vibrated so bad that it was difficult to keep your feet on the pegs. Can you imagine the humiliation Harley riders felt at being shut down by a little 250cc ring-ding rice spitter?

The 1960s Suzukis didn't have steel and aluminum up to the quality of the design. The X6 was fast but had problems.

The Brigstone 350 was a screamer. It had rotorary vlave intake like the RZ350 Yamaha but they never sold well and Bridgestone desided to close that segment of there company.
