Special Model - rear rack interchange question

Will the rear rack.from a 79 special for and 80 or 81 special? And vice versa. Does the same racks fit all the specials?

No. The ‘79 rack does not fit the ‘80/‘81. The ‘80/‘81 rack does not fit the ‘79. At least, not without modifications.

The '79 special is a one year machine. The seat, side covers, tail light and rack mount are '79 only. I've made things work, but then I have a TIG welder at home...
Most if not all of the engine forward bits fit all years of the specials. Yamaha made a change from the seat back in '80, and the '81 kept that change.
