what's it worth

I'm thinking of selling my 82 XJ1100 if you know of anyone interested... Mainly I'm here asking opinions of what it's worth.

-It's not mint but it's in good condition
-34,500 miles
-starts and runs very good
-Dunlop rubber has about 3000 miles on both
-National Cycle windshield (tombstone style)
-Leather saddlebags
-Carbs are solid - I rebuilt or replaced everything in them.
-Brakes are decent - rebuilt front master, new front stainless line - could use a new front (left) rotor
-Good chrome (not perfect but clean, stock pipes)
-New EMGO mirrors
-Indy filters
-Many other new or rebuilt parts

I've riden this bike for the last two years and it's been very reliable, even on long weekend camping trips.

Any thoughts as to what she's worth?

The stock pipes in great condition could be worth as much as a $1,000.00. If it's decent it should bring over $3,000.00. If you doll it out some they are worth $5,000.00. Trick them out and they go for $10,000.

This one goes for over $40,000.00 and will do 150mph easy.

Sight unseen, I'd have to agree with Hawk on this one ... Just by how you describe it, it sounds like you should be able to land 3 or 4 grand for it with out much problem. Best way is to get some good pictures and start showing it off.

I think it's more in the $1300 range... Where are you guys coming up with 3-4 grand - I've never seen them that high.

I just paid $1250 for mine, 51K with 5 K on a rebuild, Cosemetics good, new rear, good front rubber. I think it was a good deal. I would agree 4 or 5K would be a nice price to get, but you'll find nice ones out there for less.

Couple points.....

Price varies with region. Cold regions, less riding weather, bikes are generally cheaper.

Fall prices are generally lower than spring prices due to limited riding and/or storage concerns.

Stock bikes of this age generally bring more than modified ones, even if the mods are relatively mild, like swapping in individual air filters. Seeing a modified bike can raise concerns about how the bike was treated/ridden earlier in life, and what else a previous owner might have done to the bike.

I paid $650 for my street-ready XJ. Did change fluids and maintenance, like spark plugs, but it didn't need repairs to ride. It did not have the bags and windshield, which would have raised the price some.

BTW, the 3-4 grand is a joke. Once in a while someone lists a 'rare XS 11' on eBay or in some car shopper magazine with an outrageous price. Highest price paid I know of was $2,500 for an absoultely *spotless* XJ with only a few thousand miles on it.

The Bob Jones bikes (Merriman Cycle) are rebuilt from the ground up and are better than new. I wouldn't compare any used bike to them.

My best guess...$1,000 - $1,200 is reasonable, anything over that is a bonus. Selling in the sping would get you $100 - $200 more, maybe.

I just bought an 82 XJ 1100 with 35,000 one owner miles, well maintained with a pacifico fairing, runs perfect, great shape, I live in Spokane WA and paid $1,000 which seems to be about market value from the (pre-purchase) research I did. Many owners on this site like to brag that they paid less for theirs (look under the H-D vs XS threads) IMHO $900-1300 seems typical around here for an "average" condition bike.

I would agree with Jerry, 3-4K is not going to happen. I would give a wider range of $500 to $1500. Probably in the middle, or $1k is likely. So, what you gonna buy in it's place?

They sell for bout 600-1.5k$ in yurp. Depends on the market and condition.
