  • Timing module

I recently got my project bike running, an '81 SH. Seems to be running great but there is a 'tapping' noise coming from the vacuum advance/ pick up coil assembly. I can put my finger on the assembly and stop the tapping (sounds like it's 'bottoming out'). Since there is no way to adjust the timing (and it doesn't have a 'timing module') would it help to try installing a module from an earlier model (assuming it would fit)? I replaced the vacuum line, no change. Just seems to be too much travel of the vacuum advance unit/ pick up assembly.

Check first to make sure the vacuum line is connected to the #2 carb BODY and not to the carb rubber boot fitting.

Bingo! I feel like a total rookie now! Was in too much of a hurry when putting it back together. Should have known better (having a '79 SF for thirty years)! Thanks Phil!! Have a great day!
