  • engine bolt question HELP!

was experiencing an oil leak from oil plug bolt below left side crank cover-was informed by xs'er that there was an o ring under said bolt that was prone to failure. pulled it apart, and he was right. upon reassembly, snapped the head off the bolt. this part is no longer available. my question is, since this is merely a plug, would there be any problem if i matched thread patters/depth and just plugged the hole with a different bolt? suppose the block metal differs from the bolt? yes, i already got the broken bolt out. thx, mark ps-'79 xs11 f

    Yes, Portero,

The Block is cast aluminum(I think...don't think is a solid block that was machined), but the bolt should be steel. You may be able to find a similar sized plug at the local auto store, metric section. Other's have already found similar plugs for the middle and rear wheel drive oil chambers! Surprised you broke the bolt without tearing up the case?!?!
