high mileage

I was wondering what other members have coaxed from their bikes. I have a '79f that is pushing 77,000 miles with no major repairs or breakdowns(runs like a champ!). I have had this bike since 28k so most of the miles are mine(mexico, pch, etc). Are there other members with mileage like mine? If so, am i nearing the end of the line with the beast or shall I delay the debt of owning something new and shiny? mark

I started a thread around here somewhere a few weeks ago polling people on how many miles they had witnessed in and XS11.

There was quite a few with much higher mileage than yours. I personally have seen 4 or 5 now in XS of 100,000 miles and still running strong.

Of course you know your bike better than anyone but unless you have some warranted suspicion something is wrong I wouldn't bet on it.

I just read Bob Jones book "XS11 Heaven". At 140,000 miles he "thought" he detected some piston slap on his first 78E. When he tore it down and mic it all....the engine was still in spec!!! He could see nothing wrong. He went ahead and installed the piston kit since he had the bike apart. That was 74,000 miles agao. The bike now has 217,000 miles on it.

My 80SG has 98,6** showing on the odometer...then I crashed it. But almost every major part of it except the frame, will be back to see 100k miles.
