  • partsnmore universal petcocks

Okay, I odered the universal petcocks and 46mm adapters from partsnmore for my '79 xs11fs. They show that these are the right parts for the 78-... xs. I didn't measure the opening to opening length on my oem petcocks assuming they would be correct.

I got them in and they don't fit. I did a center to center measurement on the openings for my tank and they are 34mm or there abouts and only about 3/8" wide. This means that either the tank is not the right tank on my bike or the parts are for a standard and not a special.

I couldn't find too much on converting to these when I did a search. Any suggestions?

Here is the ebay link to my bike. if you want to see what the tank looks like.

    Thanks,

ThreadsI read om the XStriples site said that the hole in the tank that the petcock goes through has to be enlarged slightly.
As far as the adapter bolt hole distance, I don't know.
I'm tired of petcock problems and I'm ready to go to strictly manual.
My LG has the octopus removed and is manual. These XS's are the only bikes I've ever owned that weren't manual.

      I know what you mean...

Hi Pat, thanks for the reply. I had a xs850 for a couple years and the vacuum petcocks were the bane of my existance. That's why I want to get away from them. I'm going to see if I can drill different holes into the adapter and will post pics if I can get it to work.

I thought Mike's had an adapter plate that had the threaded hole for the petcock but no holes for the mounting bolts. You drilled them to the specs you need. They suggested petcocks from <donning metric armor> Harley Sportsters. The version with no reserve function fit right in. The petcock with reserve required enlarging the tank hole IIRC.

          found the adapters

I contacted MikesXS and they didn't have the 34mm adapters. Started doing generic google searches on the size I need and www.oldbikebarn.com sells the 34mm adapter plate that I need for my special. Only $7.95 per adapter. Will just have to pull that rat tail file out and enlarge the opening a little. Didn't think I saw them there but I guess they had them...been searching the web too long...

Thanks for all the advice. I'll post pics.
