    Changing Brake pads

    Hey,
Anybody have a link or anything that would show me how to change the rear brake pads on an '80 Special? I looked in tech tips and searched the forums for any info on it. Sorry if I missed something already here. I need to order the shop manual for mine, but $$$ are tight right now.

    Thanks.

Real easy. The trick is the phillips head screw that holds the inner pad in place. It must be accesed from the left side of the bike. Use a flash light to find it. The other fastener is the bolt that holds the caliper to the bracket. Once both fasteners are removed then justlift the caliper up and off. The pads will stay in the bracket.

      Thanks

I need to get them done before I kill myself just using the front ones.

        HHhmmmmm....

The front brakes are where all the stopping power is. When decellerating, the bikes drops forward, putting more weight on the front tire, hence more traction. This shift reduces the weight at the rear, making it more likely to lock up and skid.
Doubt it? Cruise about 20 mph and put moderate pressure on the back pedal. The bike slows, dips forward and she'll soon lock up and fishtail sideways.
I still use it, but only.... if I'm doing a long slow brake coastin' up to a red light.
