  • XS11 K&N, Need to rejet???

I was wondering if any of you XS owners switched from the factory air filters to a K&N or equivalent, was there any need to rejet your bikes to match the higher flow filters. Ive heard that this can cause problems on any bike, but yet some are lucky enough that they dont.

My bike has 18000miles on it, and I just found out today that it still has the original filter. I want to replace it with a K&N but im not really looking forward to having to rejet. If you did have to rejet, which jets did you have to adjust, the pilots or others?

Any info on the subject would be greatly appreciated

The K&N OEM equivilant requires no re-jetting. Individual "pod" filters may need re-jetting.
Om my 78 I use the OEM K&N and I have an aftermarket exhaust. I found a need for re-jetting, one size up on the mains and one notch richer on the needles, the pilot jets remain the same.

Whats the difference between the OEM equivalent and the straight up K&N, more restriction?

I have a straight pipe exhaust set up on my bike, and as of right now my bike is all ready running rich, which is another reason im doing the research on this now. If im going to do it, now is the time becuase I will be doing some carburator work soon here to clean the pilots and adjust the carbs better.

Where can a guy find the new jets? as well as a K&N filter; any yamaha dealership???

I don't go to the Yamaha dealer for anything on my XS (Wife's Virago, we get oil filters there).
I don't remember which I got them from but K&N's are available from most catalog and on-line sources like bikebandit, parts-n-more, dennis kirk, etc.
Maybe others on the list know the exact sources.
