    79/80 Standard vs 79/80 Special Ears

    From what I can tell, the headlight ears for these models all look the same. All have the same middle 5 numbers, just the model number is different. This means that the ears from a 80 special would fit my 79 standard, right??

    Thanks

    Jack

    No! Standard fork ears will not work on a Special. Period! They are totally different designs.

        There are some on ebay right now, and did you kjnow that the ears from an xs850 SG are the same as the xs11? I had them and a headlight bucket on my SGbefore the wreck, and I bought more from an 850 on ebay a while ago. There are many parts that are interchangable. Use yamaha online parts catalog to cross reference part numbers.
        Discover the OFFICIAL Yamaha parts store, where you can find genuine Yamaha parts, accessories, apparel, and more. Shop with confidence for top-quality products directly from the trusted Yamaha brand.

        Oops! I just realized that you are looking for ears from a standard, not a special. Sorry. You could always convert to a round headlight.

          Ya, I always use the Yamaha site to check the numbers, then do a google to see what comes up.

          I'm the eternal optimest when it comes to parts. As for the round light...all my other bikes have the rect. lamp...dont want to put a round lamp in a square stable

            Jack;
            I'll be picking up some spare standard parts with my new bike Thursday. If I do have ears and a bucket, I'll PM and let you know. I think it would be a good start for a horse trade...
