oil leak under left crank cover

have had this bike for almost 50k, this is the first time i've noticed this leak. seems to be coming from a port/gap under the left cover. my left boot toes/shifter show a bit of oil. anyone experienced this before?

Sounds like the left side crank shaft seal, if it is coming from under the cover. Pull the cover and check. Right below the gap you mentioned is a hex head bolt. That is a plug for the oil galley that supplies the crank. It has an O ring that can develop a leak.
