Brake rotor interchange?

Guys,

I've done searches here but can't find info on interchange of rotors between models. Anyone know if other models use the same size rotors as our XS11's:

XS750?

XS850?

XS650?

The xs650's will fit but the xs750-850 is a smaller diameter. The calipers from the triples will interchange though.

Are all the XS1100 rotors interchangeable? E, F, SF, G, LG, SG, H, LH & SG?

front <> front & rear <> rear?

or can you also swap a rear rotor onto a front tire?

(The last piece of the puzzle in restoring my SF. Well, I hope it's the last...)

Yes, all the 1100 rotors are interchangeable. Some are going to say rear and right front are the same (they are) and left front is different (it is) on some models. This is a cosmetic (slots) difference and dosen't effect performance of the brakes.

Hey Pat!

Thanks. My '79SF took a bad hit bending the right stanchion. I eye balled the front rotors and thought they looked straight - figuring I'd be lucky if they worked out. I wasn't lucky. Come reassembly time when I fit the front wheel, the left rotor was flush against the fork slot where the pads fit around it. Alas...

There's nothing like continually dis- and re-assembling your bike to get it down pat.

After replacing front rotors, I found that I had an alignment problem on the left rotor and the left fork tube. When you tourque the axle nut, there is no adjusting the rotor to the left slot. The shoulder on the axle fits inside the hole in the fork tube and the rotor is where it is. So, this was the only way I could make it work.Then after many times trying to follow the above mentioned directions, I made a shim for the axle. It goes between the shoulder of the axle and the shoulder inside the left fork tube. I made it out of a metal washer and it took a while to get it the correct size. I can only assume that the offset of the rotors I put on the bike were different than the ones I took off. By offset, I mean the measurement between the connection of the rotor to the wheel and the braking surface. My bike is a special and the rotors I installed were from a standard. With the shim installed, the left rotor is perfectly aligned.
