  • What part would you like to see made the most at a reasonable cost for the XS?

I am looking into a manufactoring concern in Russia, may be cheaper and better quality parts than China if it pans out- and I am compiling a list of parts on different bike forums for vintage bikes that enthusiasts would like to see built, and would buy them in small runs if made. For instance, on the V4 honda forums- it is performance rods and or pistons.

If you could have a part made for your XS 1100 that, say 50 of you would love to buy at a reasonable price, what would it be?

    Hey there Cruising Ram,

Well, as you may know many parts are still available from several aftermarket sources, but I can think of a few....now whether 50 people will speak up and offer to buy it/them is another thing, so you might be able to get a larger market on Ebay in conjunction with this site!?

Recently, a fellow Xsive had access to a batch of front brake reservoirs....however, the XS uses 2 types, short and tall, Standard and Special....check out this thread..page 6 for photos:
    Reservoir thread/photos page 6

These are made from Vinyl/plastic so you can see thru them to tell if fluid levels are okay, so not sure if your manufacturing connection can do that material, or only metals..aluminum? Aluminum would be more durable....nice if had view window? And make matching shiny cap!! Remember, we can get complete replacement MC's for $70-80

Second is the front caliper pistons...again different for Standards and Specials...can get Standards...Specials are no go!

Side covers are also RARE and hard to find!! And again, regrettably come in a variety of styles for the years and models! The 650's have new chrome metal ones now available!
Again, don't know if you/they could come up with "generic" replacements, perhaps with a combo fitting design on the top edge that could be changed to allow one style to fit several year/models!? Again, would need different for left and right!?
Hopefully this will get the discussion going?

How about oversize piston/ring kits. For those that don't want to go the 'big bore kit" route.
Decent priced vacuum diaphrams come to mind too.
I know lots of listers would like the 6.5 gallon fueltank.
Replacement seatpans? Some are rusted badly.

For 1982 XJ1100,stock exhaust pipes and mufflers made out of stainless steel if possible so that they won't rust or burn out. Rear master clyinder, carbs and rubber mounting tubes, rear caliper, front and rear rotors. This is just a few of the item that i could come up with for this style and year of bike. Can anyone can add too this list?

The 650's now have new chrome metal ones now available!
TC...Those 650 Special sidecovers from Mikes XS are chrome plated plastic...but who's gonna know? Now watch some maniac chrome the frame, tank, engine covers, fork lowers, switchgear and lever perches on an '83 Heritage Special, add Mike's sidecovers and bar clamp and have a nearly all chrome bike!

I'm also for side covers and stock exhaust pipes, and how about xj tail lights, mine is cracked and I hear that they are very hard to come by.

I would be interested in a good set of affordable brake rotors.
Thick and true, slotted or drilled. Maybe floating?

www.mikesxs.com has floating, drilled rotors part #30-3065 @ $130 each which weigh a little more than half of what the stock rotors weigh. The same rotors that are on the XS650 also fit the XS11, in fact they are identical except for the slots on the later XS11s and XJs. The stock rotors are far thicker than they need to be. Interestingly enough, the rear caliper of the XS 11 is the same as the front caliper of an XS650.

How about sidecovers, sidecovers, and ummm... Sidecovers! Unlike the fiberglass ones that Merrium Cycle, I think..., offers for like 180 a pair, they would need to be reasonable.

How about, for the tool kit, a little can of something that removes rust, leaving a chrome finish behind. Just apply and wipe off.

Really, if Mike La Londe can sell drilled floating brake rotors for $130 why does a fiberglass repro sidecover cost $180!
