  • Headlight for '82 Maxim XJ1100

I recently purchased an '82 Maxim XJ1100. I would like to get rid of the fairing and return to original. I am have a hard time finding a complete headlight assembly and the Yamaha nameplate below the light. I have found a lot of the headlight parts but need the chrome bucket. It seems to be particular to the '82 Maxim which everyone knows is the only year Yamaha made this model. Any help on where to pick-up these parts will be greatly appreciated.

I am a new owner of an XJ1100 82. I was given the bike this past weekend. It has 17K on it so I feel like I gotta lot of good biking ahead of me. I was quietly thinking of changing the look of the bike to having a fairing can you give me your reasoning why you want to get rid of the fairing? Mine is original stuff including the Yamaha logo and chrome bell around the headlight. Have you found anywhere to get parts?

The XS1100 Specials came with a round chrome headlight similar to the XJ... maybe identical. They're difficult to find also, but it might give you a few more options to look for. Also, other XJ models (550, 650, 750) had similar headlights.

          Deo:

Hope you get this message. I have a complete fairing w/windsheild, headlight and all brackets for your '82 XJ1100 and would be willing to trade straight across for your complete headlamp and Yamaha nameplate. Both have to be removed from your bike to faciltate installation. Please let me know where you live and a phone number and we can get together. My name is Robert Olzack and can be reached on my cell @ (209) 777-8101. Hope to talk to you soon.

            Robert,

This is David Olson deo. I am extremely new at this motorcycle building and repairing. I would very much like to see what the fairing looks like, ie picture on the web would be fine.

I am going over to a Yamaha dealer today to get an idea of what it would cost to work the bike over and then make a decision.

I am concerned that it might be too cold for riding without a fairing and that is one of the reasons for changing to a fairing model.
