  • How to remove carbon from exhaust pipes?

When I got her, she was running really FAT! (The BIKE, I mean!)

When disassembled, one can see that the inside of the whole exhaust system is almost furry 'cause it's so carboned up.

I went to a machine shop that has a hot tank. The owner said that he didn't like to put exhaust systems in there.
He suggested that I try aerosol brake cleaners, but I found them to have no effect at all. Drat!

Any ideas on how to clean it out?

Try using a some oven cleaner in the pipes. It will dissolve the carbon build up. I'll bet even the spray on products like a BBQ grill cleaner would work also. We use a product at work that is called 'gasket, pait, and decal remover. I used that to remove the carbon from my valves and combustion chambers, and exhaust ports. It just dissolved the carbon, and a light wire brushing did the job.
