  • '82 XJ 1100 Fairing

    Hi All
I just got my Magnim 1100. It came with a universal windscreen that looks more like it should be on a crotch-rocket.
Any clues where I might find a full touring fairing that would work for it??
    Thanks!

    Hey Jim,

Congrats on your acquisition of your MAXIM XJ1100! The Magnums are Honda! Aside from posting a request message in the Other general discussion forum, your best bet is to check Ebay.

You may also be able sell your "crotch rocket" styled one as well!

      Congrats on your purchase

I've had really good luck with National Cycle Plexifairing's over the years. In fact I buy one for every bike I've owned. It's all lexan without any painted surfaces, but it performs really well. If you're gonna drive your bike over 90 mph regularly, you'd be better off with a frame mounted fairing as a handlebar mounted fairing gets unstable above 85 mph or so.

        Maxim 1100

Of course the first post I put up I put magnum instead of MAXIM!! Thanks for not kicking me off! I have been typing Maxim into so many search engines I musta been loopy.

...anyway, thanks for the info! I won't be driving over 90 much if at all so, for that reason, I think a fork mounted one would work. I am planning on commuting as far into the seasons as I can so I would like a full size fairing. That may lead me back to the frame mounted ones.

When I do see one on ebay it usually just lists the bike it came from. When I look to buy one, many sites/stores don't list back to an 82 model.

I guess my real question is, how universal are most fairings ?

The fairings are for the most part universal. The frame mount for the fairing is particulare to each bike/model. You should be able to get an older Windjammer or Pacifico fairing. The frame mount for the XJ may have to be custom built, if you cannot find a "good" ( read NOT bent ) mount.
I do have a fairing on my XS1100, and like riding with it. I also use my bike for a daily commute of 70 miles round trip.

That is about the length of my commute as well. Heaven knows with the gas prices, the bike will pay for itself soon!
Thanks for the particulars on what to look for.

              JIMBOREENO
CHECK THE SALAVAGE YARDS IN YOUR AREA TO SEE IF THEY HAVE ANY MOTORCYCLES IN THERE YARDS. MOST OF THE VETTER FAIRINGS WILL FIT REGARDLESS OF SIZE OF BIKE, BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO REDO THE MOUNTING BRACKET, UNLESS IT CAME OFF AN XJ. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU GET THE WIRING HARNESS THAT GOES WITH THE FAIRING. CHECK FOR BROKEN OR CRACKED MOUNTING BOLT HOLES. ALSO ASK ANYBODY WHO RIDES A MOTORCYCLE WHERE YOU MIGHT FIND ONE. YOU WILL BE SUPRISED HOW MANY PEOPLE KNOW WHERE STUFF LIKE IS AT.

I might be interested in the smaller fairing? Not sure yet as I really like the nakedness of my ride, but I am planning on riding it later this year due to the gas and would not mind to have a fairing to block the cold. Do not want a big one though.

Let me know if you are interested.

                    You Got It

If I go with a larger one it will be for the colder months. I might keep the small one for the hot weather though. If I am going to sell it, I will post it here first.

cool. I really like the looks of the quicksilver fairings, kinda smaller and racier looking, but I have only seen pics of a couple. With shipping on those it ends up being alot of money to spend on something that you are not really sure if you want or not!!

I have a small windscreen that I use sometimes, but I really like the looks of that one. Looks almost like the quicksilver fairing. Only drawback is that you can't put a radio in that one huh. Could you mount one in the quicksilver fairing? I have never seen one up close. I may do a google on the one that you have there and see if they are still made.

Does that say "tracy" in front of "stiletto"? did a couple of googles and turned up exactly squat!

There is a quicksilver fairing for a suzuki I think a 650 or so. 140$ including shipping. that is too rich for my blood for something that I am unsure if if I would even like. I don't think that you can even put a radio in it!!

maybe will concentrate on finding a windscreen like that one, cheaper and comes off easier in the summer!!
