The Rebel is a great starter bike for a woman, particularly one who is vertically challenged. I know two ladies who purchased them for first bikes, and they were both quite happy with them. Yours should hold its value pretty well, and if she gets bitten by the bug, will provide a good downpayment on a 500-650 in a year or two (if she will let you sell it!). I would strongly recommend the Motocycle Safety Foundation new rider's course if she hasn't taken it yet. When I took it 3 years ago, I had owned 3 bikes and had been riding for a long time, but it cured a few bad habits I had picked up over the years, such as over-use of the rear brake.
