  • fuel economy

I have an 80 xs sg. My fuel economy is terrible. I get less than 20mpg no matter how i ride. I was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas on what to check. Thanks

.. man, and i thought mine was bad at 27 mpg.. i'm thinking about using the 650 for my primary ride but the 11 is running really good, it'll be a hard switch
.. you might have a problem

Pull your plugs. They are probably very dark indicating you are running too rich. If that is the case, you may need to adjust your floats to make sure they are set right.

Yes, my SG gets 36-38 mpg, has done so since new (now 32K mi). So I would say yours has a definite problem someplace.

Float levels are the place to start. Was there any carb or engine work done?

But also check non carb items like leaks in fuel lines, petcocks, octopus, and even the tank itself.
