  • Needed: Petcock circular o-ring

    1981 xs1100 H Model

I need a petcock circular o-ring that is seated on the turn switch. The switch/lever that is used for turning gas on/off, reserve.

    Does that make sense?

I am not sure if you call it an o-ring. Reminds me of the butterfly shaft rubber rings but larger.

I only need one. Petcock rebuild kits have all 0-rings and gaskets. But I do not want to buy the complete set.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

This might help. Go to Autozone or a place like it, take your old old ring with you. They might be able to find something close enough to work. There are also o-rings in packs that might have what you are looking for say a automatic transmission for example. Cost is a buck or two but you will have spares if it works. Hope this helps and good luck.

        Hey Tokarz,

I tried to find a replacement O-ring at my hardware store that fits around the circumference of the petcock valve, but they were all too thick!

So....good luck, but I don't think you'll be able to find this O-ring at your local hardware store!?
You might have to bit the bullet and get the entire kit to get this special O-ring!?

Try the smaller thick one and after stretching, it might fit.

O rings do come in different thicknesses. They are usually listed something like "3/32 X 7/8 X 1". Just look for one with the smallest fraction for the first number, and the proper outside diameter.

Well, I lucked out. My original was not destroyed after all. It returned to its original shape.

              Thanks.
