XS1100SF "Rusty", runs great, 96k miles
XS650SJ "The Black Bike", engine from XS650H with 750cc big bore kit, 30k miles
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out and defiantly shouting, "WOW, what a ride !" - Sprung
Appreciate that Jimboreeno, but on a day not so much polishing it really looks ordinary-especially now that I'm having trouble with the carbs-(which I was trieing to stop making leak into the cylinder, have to order needles etc.) have a way to go, and wife says I spend way too long messing and fixing it...they just dont understand that it kills us if our "baby's" to be down, we have to fix her,
Just noticed you are in Springfield, I'm just on the other side of Portland!
And I am personal friends with the pastor of "Covenant Confirmers" motorcyle ministry and church-Pastor Ron Baptiste, and his wife, heres their website. http://www.covenantconfirmers.org/page.cfm?pageid=5
We just Played at their Ralley in June, it was awsome! Do you know of them?
Anyway drop me a line or email, maybe we can ride, or fix on our bikes sometime.
Cool
I am familiar with the church, haven't ever been. My bike is currently in the shop. I bought it from a guy in Barren Plains. It needed tires, electrical, brakes, etc. I want it for commuting and needed to get it running and reliable in a hurry.
Of course, it is going to cost me out the #&$*%(!!!
I should have it back for the weekend and my wife and I are going to hit the road and put a few miles on those new tires!
I would like to meet you and compare notes on the bike. I really bought this by accident and didn't realize it had such a following.
I have a question you can probably answer. Was 82 the only year for the Maxim 1100?? It is the only year I have seen referanced.

it was the only year for the xj1100 , not the xs 1100
cool, I hope you and your wife have a great and safe ride when you get your bike back, and I'd love to meet you, just let me know and we could compare schedules.
That church is awsome, I used to go to another church in Whitehouse and Ron and Chricket Baptiste went there, then after that they started that church, he is the best preacher I've heard in TN, so if you visit you would'nt be disappointed, they also have lots of fun activities.
Look forward to talking to you soon,
John
P.S. there is an article about the rally there in Springfield that we attended in the current issue of "Thunder Roads magazine" available at any Yamaha dealer (rivergate-america's motorsports, or Castle Automotive - also in Rivergate)
Your information regarding the year for xj's is inaccurate. I own a 1984 xj1100, purchased it new in 1985 and still own it. I believe however that it was not available in the US other than 82.

You are right, I guess since we are in the US I had forgotten That there was some canadaian xj in production after this year, I just remember the Yamaha dealer saying "oh that is the only year for the xj1100 duh! Thanks for the correction.
Thanks for the acknowledgement. Ironically, I have no real knowledge of an 83 xj1100. Do you or anybody else have any idea if they took a year off or what??

Just out of curiosity, have you checked the manufacture date on the tag on the steering neck? Quite a few have bikes have registration papers reflecting the date they were first registered instead of when they were built. This can happen if a bike sits for a while before selling.
Not recently, but I have and if memory serves it was Nov 83, besides which the registration theory would be incorrected because it wasn't registered until Jul 85.
As an aside, how come folks seem to have such difficulty believing 84's exist??

Because seeing is believing, and down here we've never seen one newer than 82. Mitch in New Brunswick was the first to tell me about having them in Canada for three years. I don't know if there were any changes to them during those years, though. I've owned and parted out two xj's and I didn't know that they were still built after that, though it would seem stupid to manufacture a new model and cancel it after just one year.
