T.C...My favorite headlamp which I will get when I can afford it is the tri-bar blue dot halogen with the clear lense and faceted reflector, they look great and work great too. Don't think they're DOT approved though but neither are richened jets, loud pipes and all the other stuff we do to our bikes.

One question I'd really like to see answered is just how much wattage does the XS11 alternator put out, my owner's manual is silent on the subject. I've seen many references to how weak the alternator is but no real numerical value. I ran a 100w high-beam cheater H4 bulb in my XS650 for a few months despite dire warnings from the "experts" that the electrical system wouldn't handle it, I'd probably still be running it except the low-beam burned out (Go figure, I only use the low beam at night, always high-beam in daylight) and I replaced it with a standard 55/60w from Mike LaLonde. My battery didn't run down but I usually kick-start my bikes even my XS11SF. I'd really like to run driving lamps for night driving since my night vision isn't what it used to be. I ran extra lamps on my XJ750 for years with no problem and that bike had no kick-starter. Does anyone actually know the capacity of the XS11 electrical system.
Shiny side up,
650 Mike

XS1100SF "Rusty", runs great, 96k miles
XS650SJ "The Black Bike", engine from XS650H with 750cc big bore kit, 30k miles

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out and defiantly shouting, "WOW, what a ride !" - Sprung
