Priority Lights?

I asked this question before but it was on another thread so here goes a new one: I'm moving my rear turn sigs back to the license mount so I can use my saddlebags (I've done this on my 650s too) and I'm using a set of red lenses from Mikes XS. My sigs are the single wire type. If I run a Priority Lights or other running/brake/turn sig unit will I lose the self-cancelling feature of the stock set up? Anybody out there with one of these units who can report on the functionality?

I don't see why you would lose the auto cancel feature, if you are using a two wire socket. If you use the one wire socket, it will not work, the t/s circuit will be energized all the time. The t/s are a totally seperate/independant circuit than the running lights.

Has anyone tried to replace just the base of the socket of a turn signal? I know from some of the parts that we use at work that Grote, and /or Petersen lighting products have just the base with one or two wires available and they just slip right inside the existing socket. You may be able to go that route.

John, they call that a "pigtail". I used to replace them years ago. I would think you could slip a two wire into the socket. The only catch is there may be a "tab" on the two wire pigtail to keep the contacts in the proper position. The single wire socket wouldn't have the tab.

As I understand it the Priority Lights unit allows one to use the single wire turn sigs as running lights or aux. brake lights and have them overide when one activates the turn signal. My question is: Has anyone out there installed one of these units on a Special with single wire sigs and does it do the job? I know that the Yamaha self-cancelling turn sigs are sensitive to the current draw from the bulbs and I've heard from some that a Priority Lights unit will cause the self-cancel to not work. None of the folks that told me this have one of these units installed so I'm looking for first hand knowlege. I know it's not really a huge issue since most of us manually cancel signals but the self-cancel is a nice feature and prevents the embarrassment of running for miles with a blinker on as we've all seen some riders do.
