  • UNI Air Filter

Some time back on the old list there was a complaint about some foam air filters that would get caught in the clip on the stock air box screws. Was that the UNI filter?

I needed a new filter and this was all the local bike shop stocked. Has any one used this filter? I don’t like the way it looks.

I had a K&N filter but too many years of use and I can no longer get it to fit the air box. Apparently it has shrunk.

I have had a UNI on my 80 for 6 years. I like it, uses a different oil than K&N. The complaint was on 78-79 only I think, they have hitch pins instead of clips to hold the screws from dropping out of the airbox, these get caught in the foam and get stuck or tear huge chunks of filter out. If you have an 80-81 you will be OK.

I have had a UNI that fits in the stock airbox for 4 months now. So far i am very happy with it. No snagging/install problems on my 81 Special. i don't know if there as good as the more expensive K&N, but i would bet it is better than the stock airfilter. The filter and can of filter oil cost about $25.00.
