OK, guys. I see all these numbers, and don't really like them, but I have an 80 LG and rebuilt the carbs with "generic" kits. Can't remember what the pilots are, but the mains are 135. I'm having trouble if I run 40-60 mph, the plugs (B6ES) will foul out in less that 100 miles unless I get after it and make a few miles under WOT. I still get 100-110 miles before I'm really looking for a station, and average 33 mpg. I'm not an overly large person (5-10/190), and maybe that helps. Can't figure the fouling, though, except for the fact that the mixture screws need to be seated for a decent quality idle. Am I running on the pilots at 60 mph? I didn't think there was enough throttle at a cruise to open the vacuum slides. I think the pilots are too big, but don't know what to do. Thought about leaving them, and putting on aftermarket exhaust. Would that "free her up"? But then again, it's a Midnight (hard to find black pipes). Anyone have a source for pilots in various sizes? You guys really helped me get the bugs out so far, and now I need to get her ironed out the rest of the way. BTW, I SMOKED a H-D DWG tonight in a 15 mph roll-and-go. I just turned over 1600 (yea that's correct) miles tonight also.

    NEOLEO,

If you truly have an 80LG, and haven't used any other set of carbs from an earlier series, 78-79, then you definitely have WAY TOO LARGE of mains at 130!!!

Stock is rated at 110, you're 8 sizes too rich!!! The Pilots do contribute thru a fair amount of the throttle range. IF you're generic jets were K&L brand or even other than Mikuni, then they too, may be too large....especially if you have the pilot screws turned in fully seated!!

.. i'm pretty sure that in 1980 the carbs changed.. they have 4 holes around the outside face of the ventury ,if this is the case then the main jets you have installed are too big.. the ones you have removed should have been 110s or 115s or a combination of them both.. there is along story be hind the differances in the two carb sets but try putting the ones you have taken out back in and see if your problem gets better
