  • installing pick up coils

I'm in the process of installing the new pick up coils. What can i take apart without messing up the operation of the bike (the running). Probably better off taking a picture to make sure all is going back on the way it went off. Can i take off the old /put on the new with taking anything else off? First time doing this. Please advise. Thanks,
    Kevin

when you take apart your bike to change the pickup coils you will not be able to ride it till you Get-R- Done.
Off comes the left engine side cover, ( 4 bolts )
Off comes the allen head bolt that holds the timing indicator/marking plate, ( should only fit on one way )
Off comes the pickup coils and wire holders, ( 4 screws )
Off comes the Neutral switch wire, ( under engine 1 philips screw )
Loose come the harness holders ( follow harness back, You'll see em )
    Apart comes the wire connector.
Reintall in reverse. Fire it up, Time it, Install cover and ride.

NV2L8, you can dismantle the unit without affecting the timing, so long as the 2 phillips screws in the 2 adjustable slots aren't touched. Tweak the magnets nice and close to the pick-up sensor. Also, like czek says if the sensor is 180 deg out of position, you'll get get some nasty backfires!

        NV2L8,

To adjust the pickup gap, remove the timing plate and replace it with a few 6mm flat washers.

Replace the allen bolt and snug it down, don't torque it. Shift into gear so you can turn the crank using the rear wheel and line up the reluctor with the pickup. Recommended setting is .7 millimeters. I set mine to .5 mm.

Remove washers and replace timing plate and torque allen bolt.

Just set mine today... they were off by 5 deg.
Get a cheap strobe ignition checker thingie... paid 20 euro or so for mine. Put the sensor on the 1st cyl. plug cable (closest to you), and check the whole thing. The F mark should allign with the pointer at cca 1050-1150 rpm.
