    Troubleshooting flowchart

    In my Mercury Outboard Manual, there is a flowchart of "the motor does this, check these in this order." Have we ever created such a thing for the XS?

    The reason I ask is that my bike has developed a sort of, oh, resistance...it's not a hesitation...it's sort of like running through a moderate swell at displacement speed in a light craft. It does it in the mid-range, not at idle (which is much improved with the valve adjustment) or at nearly full throttle. I'm leaning toward check the needle diaphragms for a pin hole, thinking that at closed throttle the slides are not in play, and at full throttle the vacuum is enough to overcome the small leak. In the mid range, a small hole might allow a little leak that drips the slide and cuts the power a tiny bit...like cutting through a small swell in a small boat.

    Checked the rubber diaphragms in the vacuum piston...three had pin holes from wear, one of them with two holes. I did the PlastiDip repair. We'll see if that gets me on plane...

      Hey there LOHO! If there isn't a trouble-shooting flowchart, there should be one. With branches for the charging system, ignition, carburation, and more. Get workin' on that, will ya'? =:-)

        I have created a working template for such a flowchart...it still needs tweaking:

        Bike runs/sounds/looks funny---------------------> CALL SKIDS

        As I said, it needs tweaking, but it's a start...
