  • Thanks for the help!

I want to thank everyone that has commented on their clutch problems and fixes especially chevy45412001, GNEPIG, pgg and anyone else who mentioned added an extra steel plate to the clutch. After reading all that I could find on the site I decided to get one steel clutch plate before taking the clutch apart. The clutch had started to slip some about 3,000 miles ago and has continued to get worst. When I got it apart I found , like several other people have experienced, all of the plates (both friction and steel) where well in spec, the springs were fine, and nothing else looked to be worn. I added the extra steel plate to the middle of the pack and put it back together. It works great! It is hard to believe that a properly designed clutch would even have room for an extra plate, let alone work with one, but then a properly design clutch would not start slipping at 25,000 miles with all the parts still in spec.

    Thanks again, great web site,

Are you running Auto type oil? I think it contains additives that glaze the plates and cause premature wear. Try bead blasting the metal plates then soak the friction plates in some good motorcycle oil first.
