The broken speedo that came on the Mongrel had 50K and some odd miles on it and the PO said it hadn't worked for 2 years. He rode it rain or shine as his only transportation.

I figure it had around 70k on it when I got it and I've put another 10k on it since that. I don't know if it's ever had any major surgery but it runs great and no tranny problems. The clutch is beginning to slip and that's the worst that's wrong with it.

This bike has an odd history. Somewhere down the line it was either wrecked or stolen and stripped. I was a special when I got it but had midnight special wheels and other bits on it. The rear wheel was a straight spoke but the front had the curvy spokes. Anyway it has Standard front end and wheels now.

My 'F' has 108.5 miles on the motor. It still runs fine, and fast enough to get me in trouble. It goes through about a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. I do plan to rebuild it when I get the $$, because it does not have the snap the XS should.

my 79f has 80k on it now, doesn't appear to use any oil between changes, only major repair was the clutch. bought her at 29k. hope to squeeze many more years/foreign trips out of her. cheers, mark

Just went out and checked OD, 17,912.4 miles on the 80G.
12,000 on it in September.
Biggest single expense, set of tires.

Amazing that w/all the miles put on your bikes, no thrown rods, had read about "a" spun bearing and miscellaneous maladies.

Been waiting to hear the definitive answer about the engine knock in the guys bike in WA., prom said was probably a rod, but don't know if the engine has been taken apart yet.

You'd think (I think), that w/the way these bikes like to be ridden that long before 50K there would be some serious problems.

Guess there just made of sterner stuff

There are XSs running around with over 200K miles on them If the oil is managed correctly they will run for ever. The only time I have heard of rod or crank problems is when the motor was starved for oil at some point in it's life.

My SH has approx 25 000 miles.

There are no major issues and unfortunately with my yearly increase in odo this might last until the oil has been exhausted from the planet...

'79 Special, 42,000. Bought it with 36k, had to pull the head off for a helicoil, & had the valves done then. No major problems, little things like the ignition wires under the left cover, now the intake manifolds, ( they've been bad since I got it ), & rear shocks. 3 projects on my list, intake boots, a front fork rebuild, & the exhaust, the left muffler has a good size hole in it.

Forgot about this thread I started long ago. Just wanted to add a note. I talked to Bob Jones few months ago. He told me his original standard now has 217,000 miles on it with no major failure.

However at 140,000 he thought he detected a little "piston slap" and decided to tear it down. He was afraid it might seize and destroy the engine. He said he mic'd everything (block, crank, cams, etc) and all was in spec. He could find nothing wrong and put her back together.

The Eleven is truly a remarkable bike. Other than the "2nd gear" issue I can't really think of any other issue that is an imminent threat on these machines.

Not to sound too negative, but they could have done a better job designing and producing the cam chain tensioner system. I'll bet more engines have been destroyed with those unforgiving suckers!

I didnt read the part about majot repair and voted under 25k.
My bikes are under 20k and no major repairs needed.
So I tainted the vote , whoops !
