need help I have come to own a 82 xj1100j my problkem is after about a half mile of riding i lose power and it dont seem to be firing on all 4 also i noticed that both valve cocks have two fuel lines coming out of tank but are then ran to Y's and into one hose directly below both valve cocks any help would be greatly appriciated

Try opening the gas cap. Sometimes the vent hole in the cap gets plugged and dosen't allow air to displace the fuel that has been used.
My E did this. Ran great for a quarter mile then would barely limp home.

      Hey there new XJer,

Welcome to the world of Xsives and Xjives!! Carb problems are most common with these machines. You'll probably want to take apart the hoses from the carbs, and check for proper flow when turning the petcocks to various positions. The function is obtained when the handle points/covers the labelled function.

Sounds like the P.O. might have gotten rid of the Octopus, a vacuum contolled flow valve, but you'll need to verify this, if the hoses run from petcocks directly to the carbs without going thru a routing device with several hose fittings, then the Octy is gone.

The rubber valve inside the petcocks ages, gets brittle and can break up. Also, rust inside the tank can clog the inner petcock filter towers, etc.!

Read thru the tech tips on carb maintainance, repairs, etc. You will probably need to pull them and clean them as part of a complete road worthy process for your machine!
