  • Clutch Cable Help

    Does anyone know if a clutch cable from another model will fit onto a 79 XS1100 special ? Went to go for a ride and as soon as I pulled in the clutch,, the cable snapped !! Unfortunetly no one has the cable in stock

    The 81 Special (aka SH) clutch cable is the same part number.

    I don't have the part number for the 80 Special but I'd bet it's the same.

    Also, Speed & Sport have them at $18.29.

      Hey Fedexguy;

      Same thing happened to me about a week and a half ago, and I had to break down and actually go to the Yam dealer to get one. (I tend to use the honda guys here, cause they actually give a damn, and service is #1 to then) Anyways, when we did the search for the cable, they told me they didn't make it any more, and I was S.O.L. I said F*&^ that, took my cable into their back room, and started matching up cables. Took about on hour of going through something like a thousand cables, but in the end, we found on that was slightly shorter, but looked like the ends would work. Bought it for something like 20 bucks, and fitted it, and it work like majic. Just because it has a specific OEM number, doesn't mean you can do a little investigation, and find a suitable replacment. Hope that helps you in your searches, if you are having troubles finding a new / used one bro
