  • cutting out under WOT load

    Hi,

I've fired my bike back up after a couple years of sitting (too busy with new job/career).

Bike runs great (really great!) except when going up a steep hill with throttle wide open. Then it cuts out a lot until I back off a the throttle a little.

    Any ideas?

The bike is an '80 SG with 4:1 ex, individ. filters and Accel coils.

    Thanks in advance,
    Tim

I would says it's probably one of two things: insufficient fuel supply or a air intake problem. Perhaps a plug chop test is needed?

Main jets not big enough for 4-1 with cones?

      Skids (Sid Hansen)

Down to one 1978 E. Stock air box with K&N filter, 81H pipes and carbs, 8500 feet elevation.

I'd have to agree that is what it sounds like.

          jets already way up there

Thanks for all the replies. This list has the most 'stand-up' members.

I have ordered a new set of mains - 145s. The bike has 142.5 mains and 45 pilots now. But the plugs still run very gray/white.

I'm also going to do a run with the cones off. BTW - the filters are K&N knockoffs - much cheaper in more ways than just price (i.e. construction).

Fuel taps probably need stripping and cleaning.
